Auto-Tube Is Ruining the Music Industry
Practice makes perfect, not pitch perfect.

As I turned my key to start the ignition of my car, the radio started to play ‘I kissed a Girl’, and at that moment, I was struck with a memory. You know when you’re in one of those moods to watch random videos on YouTube, and once the video is done you click on a related a video. Well, I remember I was watching this baby kitten who is just too cute for life, and maybe 20 related videos later, I was intrigued by the head tittle of ‘Katy Perry without auto-tune’. As I watched this video, I heard Katy Perry’s voice live. As watching this video, I was very disappointed to see her surrounded by fans who bought tickets to watch her perform. My disappointment was a result from her unbearable voice, the voice that when not sung live, we are deceived.
This is when it dawned on me; imagine if the radio played artists singing live, no one would listen to the radio. Is it safe to thank God for auto-tune so we don’t have to hear horrible voices on the radio? Not on my watch it is. I know Jimi Hendrix is the one who said ‘music doesn’t lie’, but then again, he died in 1970, before auto-tune was invented. The music we listen to now is a lie because it is not true and sincere. Music isn’t as authentic as it once was, before 1997 when Auto-tune was invented. Ironically, just how I accidently was navigated to watching Katy Perry live, Auto-tune was an accident as well. Digital music says, “Auto-Tune was accidentally invented by an Exxon (now ExxonMobil) scientist while doing seismic data interpretation using sound waves. It was eventually realized that this technology could be used to detect, interpret, and alter pitch, and the rest, as they say, is history. The engineer was Andy Hildebrand, who was working on methods to interpret seismic data while at Exxon Production Research.”
This software corrects and makes less than average pitch and voice perfect. So, lousy artists are being rewarded with big dollars with products. The

Katy Perry is a singer and songwriter of pop-rock music. Katy Perry portrays her love for modern pop-rock music and performance by presenting it in such ways like in Wide Awake. Katy Perry performed a live music performance at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. The music video kept many of the same features such as the clouds, the shooting star, and the spaceship. Katy Perry’s story in her performance was similar to The Smashing Pumpkin’s music video because in Tonight, Tonight there are two people on an adventure into space and in The Wide Awake performance Katy Perry and a man are together on an adventure as well. However, Katy Perry seems to be in a dream having an adventure. She kept a similar interest about taking an adventure with a significant other and transitioned it in her own art style, which is more of a modern look. There were many of the same set features such as the spaceship, and the shooting star that The Smashing Pumpkins used, and George Melies originally had. The spaceship appears in the beginning of the performance and then the shooting star is towards the middle of the performance and those clearly have a meaning of when the spaceship and the shooting star are placed in the performance. Katy Perry used her performance to represent an adventure with someone, which was echoed from The Smashing Pumpkins. She was able to transcend her art of music into a live performance…

Dick Dale met Leo Fender, and together they began to work on building custom amplifiers. Since Dale always focused on creating certain specific sounds, he pushed the limits of equipment. Fender would give Dale amplifiers, but he kept blowing them up. Because of this interaction, Leo Fender was led to develop many types of amplifiers and other equipment that would survive Dick’s style, as well as adapt to many types of sounds. Eventually, Fender developed a fifteen inch loudspeaker with certain specifications, which became the famous “15” JBL D130F model.” This unit became the complete package for Dick to play with, and allowed him to become the first person on earth to jump from the guitar volume scale of 4 to blasting it to 10. Right after, and because of this, Dale became “The Father of Heavy Metal,” because he broke through the electronic barrier limitations of the era.…

The way music sounds can have many different lasting effects on the human mind. If it is played in such a way that it is shrill and loud, it will leave a different effect than if it is played legato and quiet. If a specific song with multiple instruments is not set to specific pitches, the song will go from intriquing and beautiful to uncomfortable and gross. Some groups will tune to 440 hertz and others will tune to 432 hertz. Each one results in a different sound. The tuning of 440 hertz should not be the standard of music. The relaxation that 432 brings and the health benefits certain musicians receive from it are two valid reasons to change the tuning standard.…
