Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence Artificial Intelligence is playing an important role in today’s world and in the future. “Evidence of Artificial Intelligence folklore can be trace back to Egypt, but with the development of the electronic computer in 1941, the technology finally became available to create machine intelligence. Its short modern history, advancements in the field of AI have been slower than first estimated, progress continued to be made. From its birth 4 decades ago, there have been a variety of AI programs and they have impacted other technological advancements.” (The History of Aritificial Intelligence) “In 1941 and invention revolutionized every aspect of the storage and processing of information. That inventions, developed in both the US and Germany was the electronic computer. The first computer required large, separate air-condition rooms, and were a programmers nightmare involving the separate configuration of thousands of wires to even great a program running. The 1949 innovation, the stored program computer, made the job of entering program easier, and advancements in Computer theory lead to computer science, and eventually Artificial Intelligence. While more programs were being produce, McCarthy was busy developing a major breakthrough in AI history. In 1958 McCarthy announced his new development; the LISP Language, which is still used today. LisP stands for LISt processing and was soon adopt as the language of choice among most AI developers. (The History of Aritificial Intelligence) Artificial Intelligence deals with the study of exploring how computers can perform contain task better than humans. Research in this field disciplines like psychology, philosophy and engineering other than just computer science. We all know that human spontaneously make decision based on their desires or thoughts and expertise of a particular domain. Artificial Intelligence has also played a big role in the Military Environment. The military put AI based

When I became interested in computer science, one of the areas that intrigued me the most was that of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI was futuristic back when I first attended college and the ideas that surrounded it seemed unattainable and unrealistic. Today the development of AI has been achieved and continues to grow and expand into new uses.…

Within the realm of Artificial Intelligence there are several secs which are responsible for making up that which is A.I. Normally when an individual thinks of Artificial Intelligence a few things come to mind such as the HAL 9000 system, known as “the inimitable star of the classic Kubrick and Clarke film ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’”(Picard 2001), others will think of the movie “Blade Runner”, this film featured an alternate future where a group of individuals were responsible for tracking down cyborg humans known as “Sims” which were so human like they actually were unaware that they weren’t actually humans (Scott, Fancher et al. 2007). These films come to mind because until the late 2000’s this was the closest we ever got to Artificial Intelligence…

The use of technology has always been vital to the life and survival of the human race. Ever since the Neanderthals utilized wooden tools to hunt and cook 500,000 years ago, humans have been fascinated with developing the next cutting edge technology or invention. In 1955, John McCarthy used a term called artificial intelligence, and defined it as "the science and engineering of making intelligent machines". Over the last 60 years with the inventions of computers, cell phones, and the internet, artificial intelligence has become prominent in the news and in mainstream media. Today, the phrase is a hot topic, not just in tech circles, but around the globe, as many experts believe the ensuing breakthrough will come through A.I.…

Journalist John Markoff wrote the article “Computer Wins On ‘Jeopardy!’: Trivial, It’s Not”. He discusses how the super computer “Watson” defeated the all time champion of “Jeopardy!” Ken Jennings. The author, throughout the article, agrees that the supercomputer “Watson” was a fair match against Ken Jennings. I disagree with Markoff for multiple reasons. This was in no way a fair match because the computer had a remarkable ability to answer questions at super speeds. Also, the computer has access to all available questions and the ability to answer them. This was in no way a fair battle between the computer and Ken Jennings.…

As our minds evolve, so does our imagination and the creations we come up with. Artificial intelligence may have been first imagined as an attempt at replicating our own intelligence, but the possibilities of achieving true artificial intelligence is closer than any of us have imagined. Computers, when first invented were fast at computing data, but now they communicate and calculate data much faster than most human beings, but still have difficult fulfilling certain functions such as pattern recognition. Today, research in artificial intelligence is advancing rapidly, and many people feel threatened by the possibility of a robot taking over their job, leaving human beings without work.…

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the branch of computer science, which concentrates on the intelligence of machines, and involves applying the principles of reasoning, knowledge planning, learning, communication, perception, and controlling objects to emulate the human brain. The most recognizable AI application is robotics from Hollywood cinema, and includes films such as; I Robot, Transformers, Wall-e, WarGames, A.I., The Terminator, Robocop, Iron Man, and Star Wars to name a few, which is fictional not an actual representation of AI. Robotics applications is only one of three aspects of AI, which also includes Cognitive Science applications, and Natural Interface applications, however, the area businesses are finding the most useful is the Cognitive Science applications (Murugavel, 2014).…

Early in the years of computers, the then generation had predictions. They saw computers or rather artificial intelligence turn-around how people would relate with each other and their environment. They had a believe of how machines like computers being our drivers, robots doing our chores and functions like voice interface controlling retrieval and storage of data and information. However, it never came to pass because of the difficulty in implementing and carrying out step-by-step logic operation that is provided by digital computers.…

Can computers think independently and do they have "minds"? This question has been the topic of countless, bad movies since the 1950s as well as a number of science fiction novels. We all believe that we have minds. It is something that is taken for granted but what exactly is a mind and are humans the only to possess them? Ever since the invention of the computer, they have been a mystery, even to the smartest of scientists. With the ongoing development of artificial intelligence and high population of computer literate people, the possibility of computers with minds must be re-evaluated.…

Many people fear the implications that technology can have on society and the human race as a whole. Artificial intelligence in particular, or AI, has created much controversy about whether or not it should be used. A dangerous application of AI is using it in the programming of harmful weapons and the development of autonomous weapons. According to Ray Kurzweil, computer scientist and futurist, “superintelligence by its nature cannot be controlled” (Kurzweil, 2010). Because of this, the U.S government should ban AI used in the development of weapons. This is a good and plausible solution to the dangers AI has and the further dangers that can result from the continued use of AI.…

Artificial intelligence folklore has been traced back to the times of Ancient Egypt. But the "birth of artificial intelligence" as some would call it, was in 1956 at the Dartmouth conference. The conference was based on two theories, the principle of feedback theory and the Logic Theorist. The principle of feedback theory was observed by Norbert Wiener. He theorized that all intelligent behavior was the result of a feedback mechanism. An example would be a temperature control system that simply checks the temperature of the room, compares the reading to the desired temperature, and adjusts the flow of heat to bring the room to the desired temperature. Then in 1955, Newell and Simon developed The Logic Theorist. The Logic Theorist was a program that represented every problem as a tree. The program would attempt to solve a problem by selecting the branch that would most likely result in the correct solution. Then in 1956, John McCarthy1 organized the Dartmouth Conference to draw interest and talent to the field of artificial intelligence.2…
