President Obama made his State of the Union Address with many proposals that will increase the way to a better America. He could not have picked better subjects for his address. His actions included strengthen the middle class, including calls to raise the minimum wage, improvement of immigration, and education. Obama went on to say that, “the idea that if you work hard and meet your responsibilities, you can get ahead, no matter where you come from, what you look like, or who you love. It is our unfinished task to make sure that this government works on behalf of the many, and not just the few; that it encourages free enterprise, rewards individual initiative, and opens the doors of opportunity to every child across this great nation.” President Obama’s speech was mainly about gun control to immigration, climate change, education, and the role of government, among other things. President Obama wants to raise the minimum wage to improve the problems of the poor. I think that choice has pros and cons. First off, the problem isn’t that workers earn little money, it’s because things they buy cost so much. No one likes breaking the bank. For one, Gas is so expensive? Make it $2 a gallon or something near there. Bread and meat takes a big bite out of the budges of many families. The president said, "Tonight, let's declare that in the wealthiest nation on Earth, no one who works full time should have to live in poverty, and raise the federal minimum wage to $9 an hour." He might as well say no one should have to use all of their money on daily essentials. If you look at it, the raising of minimum wage is great for us as teenagers but bad for a single parent. First off, companies will not want to pay workers more than what they pay them now, so that means they will start releasing or firing workers just so they want have to pay that much. What does that to do a family who is struggling now with the minimum wage where it is now? Some workers will go from $7.25an hour
