Have you ever wondered who Santa Anna was? You might have heard his name in history class,but do you know everything about him?
Antonio de Lopez Santa Anna (also known as Santa Anna) was born in Jalapa on February 21, 1794. He was born into a criollo middle class family of society. His father served as a sub delegate for the spanish province of Vera Cruz. Growing up, Santa Anna had very little schooling. After school Santa Anna went and worked for a merchant of Vera Cruz. Santa wanted to do something more with his life, so he became a businessman,but who would have thought that a businessman from Vera Cruz would become the most well-known Mexico President in history. Before he became president he was a general. He wanted to be president but he couldn't unless he was part of the family. He decided to marry Iturbides’ sister but she turned him down. He is also known for the execution of Goliad,which was when he massacred James Fannin and his troops. When Santa Anna and his men defeated the texans at the Alamo, they just keep claiming land in Texas, but on one fateful night in San Jacinto, Houston and his men did a surprise attack on Santa Anna and his troops. This battle is known as the battle of San Jacinto,also it's the end of the fighting with Mexico. The Texans also captured Santa Anna after he ran away and dressed like a random mexican soldier. He tried to ride out on a fellow man’s horse and a man caught him cause Santa Anna's’ horse gave out.Once the Texans captured Santa Anna they wanted to kill him, but Sam Houston decided not to kill him and he had given him the choice of being killed or signing a treaty to say Texas was independent.
