“No one believes more firmly than comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your own decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where where should we be?’ This quote came from Animal Farm by George Orwell and shows that in dystopian novels something is taken away from the characters and in Animal Farm it is the ability to make their own decisions, and this shows that mankind’s fascination with establishing “perfect” worlds is due to people thinking that it is possible for a perfect world but something must be taken away for it to be “perfect”. Jonas is being given the memories from the giver, the current receiver of memory,. In The Giver memories are taken away from everybody in the community and are held by the receiver of memory. They also take away people's inner emotions such as love, and the sense of family. Then through the memories given to Jonas he realizes what release is… the killing of elderly and young children by giving them a shot that kills them instantly, then put them in a box then send them down a chute to elsewhere. Jonas’ dad does not know what he is doing because death has never been a part of their community. After Jonas realized that his dad killed the baby and sent him down a chute into elsewhere, he said “He killed it! My father killed it!”(p.188). Jonas finds out about this because he was curious about release. Jonas already knows about death because of his memories of war. This that something was taken away from the community, in this situation love. In the story Jonas rebels by escaping the community and releasing the memories to the community, and thus the Giver must stay to help the
