An Evaluation on the effects of League of Legends (Lol) and Defence of the ancients 2 (Dota) on Academic performance of selected Grade 8 students of St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino (SMASN).Towards Academic Development for S.Y 2015-2016

Chapter 1: The Problem and Its Background
Introduction

Computer is a product of technology that world is using. Today computer is a big help for companies, offices, schools, government and churches. Computer might be used in bad things and good things. It might manipulate the world if we advance too much in this technology. Think of a world that technology do everything for us. People will be lazy. Through computers we are all connected worldwide and even the smartphones we used today. Computer is versatile tool for humans today and to the future. This is another discovery of science. Here in Philippines computer is big thing too. Here computer is used in security, health, records, entertainment and etc. Through this Philippines is systematic and organized. Sometimes computer here in Philippines is used in bad things like money laundering, cybersex, pornography and etc. There is a time where an agency caught a man here in Philippines that is a customer of a cybercrime that is caught by a buy bust operation using an Artificial Intelligence programmed to catch those people who hook up with those things. Well here in our place computer is helpful for our senior citizens for they want to learn this technology as they want to catch up with the present. The thing is that some children here learn to trash talk (pang mikon na pakikipagusap) and to clog (Mangbara). I experienced this because I also play in some internet café with those adults and kids that is playing Lol and Dota. I have also played the game. Another one is shouting, howling and screaming that some seniors and adults are angry. When I’m home I also play the game but I don’t shout and scream.

Statement of the problem This study aims to evaluate the effects of the game league of legends on academic performance of selected grade 8 students of St Mary’s academy of Sto Nino (SMASN) Specifically the study attempts to answer the following questions
1. How many the demographic profile of the respondents be described in terms of
1.1 age
1.2 sex
1.3 Language use at home
1.4 Parents
1.5 Ethno linguistic group
1.6 Residence
2. How do the effects of the game league of legends on academic performance of Grade8 students be analyzed in terms of
2.1 academic grade
2.2 class participation
2.3 behavior in class
2.4 Physical Health
2.5 mental health 3. What are the problems encountered by the respondents based on the effects of the game league of legends on their academic performance and the possible solutions to be offered
Research objectives The main objectives of this research are to
1. Describe the demographic profile of respondents in terms
1.1 age
1.2 sex
1.3 language use at home
1.4 parents
1.5 ethno linguistic group
1.6 residence

2. to evaluate the effects of league of legends on academic performance of selected grade 8 students of St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino (SMASN)
3. identify the problems encountered by the respondents based on the effects of the game league of legends on their academic performance and provide possible solutions
Hypothesis
There is significant relationship between the profits of the respondents with respect in the effects of the game of league of legends and Defence of the ancients
Assumptions
The demographic profile of the respondents may have some effect on their academic performance. In relation with experience to the addiction to the game “league of legends may result to dependence to games, low grade, unidentified behavior, trash talker and low respect
Scope and Delimitations This study on evaluation on the effects of league of legends towards academic Development SY 2015-2016 on 30 selected grade 8 students who are officially enrolled in St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino. The evaluation covers the impact of the game league of legends on academic performance of the respondents in terms of behavior in class, class participation, academic grade, physical health and mental health This study will be conducted on the month of June 2015 in St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino located at Meycuayan, Bulacan Sto Nino The researcher seeks to investigate the effects of league of legends on academic performance of the respondents. The researchers also aim to evaluate the effects of league of legends on academic performance of selected grade 8 Students of St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino (SMSN) and address the problems encountered by them. The response of students so called respondents will be taken through assigning them to interview This study is bordered in its scope by a number of factors Firstly the evaluation of this study is primarily based on the responses of the respondents as they answer the interview that is about the feeling when they play the game, the time they are consuming, the reaction of their parents, the reason why are they keep playing, what will happen to them if they play this game and are they in controlled by this game.

Secondly the interview only focuses on the effects of league of legends and Dota on daily expenses, time consumed, parents’ reaction, academic grade, study habits, personality and skills.

Lastly the study aims to change the people look in these games that sometimes the one who is playing the game has problem with himself and not the game because he/she have no more control in himself/herself anymore Significance of the Study An Evaluation on the effects of league of legends on academic performance of selected Grade 8 students of St Mary’s Academy of Sto Nino (SMASN) is intended to find the effects of league of legends on academic performance of Grade 8 students> the results of this study will benefit the following
Students
This study will help the students to control themselves in this addiction. They will know their priority. They will be inform what to do if they are experiencing this problem. This will let them know that they can play these such games but until all of their priorities is finished. This will help them to achieve their goals with enjoying themselves. This study will make their goals achieved with no regrets in their lives

Teachers This will enable the teachers to discipline those students that is in this problem. This will help them how to approach those kind of students. They know also that those students has cooperation. This study will help them know to teach this students. They will know what the kind of teaching they will do to those students. They will also make realize the students that is in this problem what is their true priority.

Administrators The results of this research will push the admins and curriculum planners to modify the curriculum and to adapt to the learners that is grievously addicted to this such games. They will try to make their lessons more essential and interesting to get their attention and not in the game. They will teach them what is their priority and not. They will make the child realize that they are doing will affect their future.

Community This study informs the public about the importance of managing league of legends and Defence of the ancients in enhancing personal relationship. This will change things as they will know that the game promotes cooperation and communication and not fighting each other. They will know that the games are only for fun and not for bet. This will prove to the community that playing this games are not bad at all that some playing it not in the right way.
