All Summer In A Day Theme
The short story “All Summer in a Day” by Ray Bradbury demonstrates how people can act cruelly to others who are different. This is because there are several examples in the story. One example of this in the story is when the kids stay away from Margot because she is from Earth, while they’ve been there for most of their lives. While some readers may think that the story’s theme is that jealousy can cause people to be cruel, the story is actually about how people can be callous to those who are different from them. This is true because there are more examples of anti-difference than jealousy or envy in the story. Another example of the Venus kids being cruel to Margot is when they lock her in the closet. They do this because Margot is from …show more content…
One example of the other kids being cruel to Margot because of her differences is when they shun Margot and don’t include her. This is an example of the kids being cruel to her because of her differences because the other kids edge away from her, look away from her, and even just walk away just because she is from Earth. The story even states that “The biggest crime of all was that she (Margot) had just come here (Venus) only five years ago from Earth.” Another example is when the kids don’t are mean to Margot is when she reads her poem and they don’t believe her. There are many more examples of this in the story.

Even so, some readers may prefer the idea that “All Summer in a Day” is about how jealousy can cause people to be cruel. The previously stated theme statement has less evidence than the original statement, which is one reason why it is not the best one. One example that only fits in the original statement is when the other kids shun her. This isn’t jealousy because you wouldn’t edge away or avoid someone whom you are jealous of. This is why the story is about people being cruel to others who are different, not how jealousy can lead people to act cruelly to those they are jealous

Like one day the principle called her home and instead of being nice back she was loud and hype she said anything that came to her mind to the principle and that made him look down even more that he already did on that family. This shows irony because she was smart when she was young and faced many hardships in school when the students teased her. So she didn’t want the same thing to happen to Tille so she kept her home whenever she could for nothing at all. And she let Ruth do whatever she wanted she wore lipstick and smoked cigarettes. In Ray Bradbury's science fiction short story "All Summer in a Day", we see that cruelty in society is fueled by the jealousy of those who have less than others through the treatment of the children towards Margot. For example, Margot is standing apart from the other children in the group while they are laughing and having fun as explained, “Margot stood alone.”. This piece of evidence is important because, the difference between Margot and the children is that she has seen the sun and they have not, which shows us that the children are jealous that Margot has seen the sun and are making her an outcast to make themselves feel better. Margot standing away from the others also shows us she fears the other children tormenting her out of jealousy and the weak will not be able to defend themselves from the evil in the masses. In addition, Margot's explanations and…

    1. The one aspect of Soto's life that was most interesting is when he had the three chicks. Soto had three chicks in his back yard that he was raising. He seemed fascinated by the way they just pecked around his back yard, blinked rapidly, and slept standing up. The chicks used to crawl on his shoes. He thought it was cute until one of the chicks defecated on his shoe. That angered Gary and he kicked sand in the chicks eyes. He immediately felt bad after what he had just done. This is the part of the story that made me laugh. It made me laugh because as the chapter went on, Gary became very protective of the chicks. When he kicked sand in the chicks eyes, it was very alarming. He seemed not to be a violent person.…

“Mean” by Taylor Swift is the song that best fits the conflict of “All Summer in a Day” because it shows that the children were disrespectful to Margot. Margot’s peers never believed her knowledge about the sun and did not respect that she was different hence why they were rude to her. The Author writes “What’re you looking at? Margot said nothing. Speak when your spoken to. He gave her a shove. But she did not move.” (Bradbury 2) William, one of Margot’s classmates, was bullying Margot both physically and emotionally. For instance, in this statement William pushes and critiques her. “Mean” portrays the exact manner that the children had concerning Margot.…
