After bringing in highly talented, motivated, and suitable staff, the organization has to keep their talent and motivation at its highest level. Different theories give the different way of motivating employees. Some argue about the effects of positive and negative perceptions of managers (McGregor, 1960), other discuss their needs (Maslow, 1943), and still others look at the effect of working conditions on the performance of individuals (Herzberg, 1959). In order for maintaining a high level of motivation among employees, every company needs to understand the value of all these factors; it should be providing supporting and encouraging workplace environment, the managers need to be considerate about the abilities and roles of subordinates, and employees’ needs from the job should be adequately met.…
The term motivation is used in management theory to describe forces within individuals that account for the level, direction, and persistence of effort they expend at work. Simply put, a highly motivated person works hard at a job; an unmotivated person does not. (Chapter 10, Section 10.1) Within my organization upper management has made the decision that my department must be downsized. There are various motivational methods to lead and implement this change within my area. There are three motivational theory methods that will be used to implement this change which are the goal setting theory, expectancy theory and the reinforcement theory.…
How often do you see a new employee or a former employee that has been with a company for a long period of time come in excited about being at work as upper management may be? Answer: Not very many people. It is important for the employee or employees to be happy to be at their job. The manager’s job is to figure out how to motivate their employees to perform their job to the best of their ability and to go that extra mile for the organization as well.…

The famous person that I chose to write about is Harrison Ford. Harrison Ford started off as a cabinetmaker. He did this job for fifteen years, just to make sure that he was able to pay his bills and put food on the table every day. Harrison Ford worked as a stagehand for The Doors, he built sound studios for Sergio Mendes, and he made cabinets for George Lucas. At the time George Lucas was not a well-known producer like he is now and he was producing the film American Graffiti. He offered Harrison Ford a small role in the film to make a little extra money and Harrison said yes. Later, as George Lucas become more famous, he asked Harrison Ford to do construction work for a bigger office. One day while doing construction, Harrison Ford was asked by George Lucas to read lines for the actors who were absent. The film just happened to be Star Wars. The off-the-cuff performance impressed Stephen Spielberg and he offered the lead role to Harrison Ford. The movie Star Wars ended up being the highest-grossing movie in history. Because of this movie Harrison Ford began a long career in Hollywood.…
Implementing change within a workplace can be difficult. Thus, setting ways to motivate workers can be just as difficult. Some methods may work for some workers but sometimes using the same methods may not work for others. It is imperative for a manager to find ways or that method would best suit his employees to assist him or her in adapting to unnecessary changes. Every leader or supervisor must know what a particular motivational technique has to apply on each individual to maximize the best potential of both workers. “Motivation occurs individuals according to three different methods of behavior: individuals, satisfying a personal need, competitive, trying to be better than someone he or she believes to be an opponent, or cooperative, working to achieve a goal that benefits the team or group” (McConnell, 2005).…
Sigmund Freud, a Jewish Austrian neurologist that developed a wonderful theory in 1915 that stated all behavior is motivated and that the primary purpose of someone’s behavior was to serve the satisfaction of needs. This serves to be true in two or more situations in the common workplace. For instance, if company morale is low, there is a very slim chance that the company as a whole will be doing well. People are driven by their need to feel satisfied and wanted at the same time. Therefore, when others exhibit behavior that is non-favorable, it is most likely due to their lack of being satisfied. Behavior can either be motivated in a positive and negative direction.…
Motivation can help and hinder the choices an individual makes, sometimes simultaneously. People act and behave various ways and some people may never be understood or why may never be pinpointed. However, every action or behavior is an impulse of an experience or the potential of that individual. Whether it is to achieve a goal, better themselves, or gain success people will act or behave certain ways through their specific form of motivation.…

In 2008 history was made in the United States when Barack Obama was elected as the first African-American President. He has stated that he was raised in Chicago Illinois by a single mother who struggled, but still found a way to instill their family morals and principals in him. I think that the aggression from the psychoanalytical view was a necessary component that ultimately helped him win the presidency as well as the humanistic view because he used his experience as a senator as a platform for his campaign. The diversity view seems to have been what some people tried to use as a weak point in his campaign because of the fact that President Obama is both African-American and White, it seems as if they wanted him to choose sides. President Obama has respect and understanding for the needs of every culture and religion and I believe this is one of the reasons he was elected president.…
