1000 Years of Revelation
THE 1000 YEARS OF REVELATION Revelation 20: 1-6 is the one passage of the Bible that directly speaks of the Millennium, which means a thousand years and refers to the reign of Christ. The interpretations of this scripture vary and can be expressed from three different prospectives, which include the views of premillennialism, postmillennialism and millennialism. The scripture, as documented in the King James Version of the New Testaments states:
20:1 And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years.
20:3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.
20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.

It is believed the writing of Revelation occurred somewhere between 90-95AD, and that John was the author. It is here that John sees the angel coming from heaven with the keys to the bottomless pit. Satan whom is referred to as the dragon is imprisoned for a thousand years in the pit. During this time Satan can no longer influence or deceive people or nations. After the thousand years,

When it comes to the millennial reign of Christ in Revelation chapter 20 the many different perspectives and viewpoints based on the timing of what this event is. “What is the purpose of the millennial kingdom? For one thing, it will be the fulfillment of God 's promises to Israel and to Christ (Ps 2; Luke 1:30-33). Our Lord reaffirmed them to His own Apostles (Luke 22:29-30). This kingdom will be a worldwide display of Christ 's glory, when all nature will be set free from the bondage of sin (Romans 8:19-22). It will be the answer to the prayers of the saints, "My kingdom come!"”…

Similarly, in Revelation 12 we see this mesh between a snake and dragon. “The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray.” (Rev. 12:9) This is reminiscent of the serpent in the Garden of Eden who led the world astray when he deceived Adam and Eve. In his commentary on Revelation, Beale confirms this, saying “The dragon is now described as the serpent of old, that is, the serpent of Gen. 3:1, 14.” (Beale 430) Stefanovic agrees with Beale, saying “he is the ancient serpent. This is the allusion to Genesis 3, where through the serpent Satan deceived Adam and Eve, thus bringing sin on the earth.” (Stefanovic 395) In his essay on the dragon of Revelation, Benton points out a verse from Isaiah that meshes the dragon and the ancient serpent together. “In that day the Lord will punish Leviathan the fleeing serpent, with His fierce and great and mighty sword, even Leviathan the twisted serpent; and He will kill the dragon who lives in the sea.” (Isaiah 27:1) This sums up the major beliefs about the interchangeability of the dragons and serpents. The Leviathan is a serpent and a dragon from the sea. Both the Judeo-Christian culture and the surrounding countries viewed dragons and serpents as the same or similar mythological…

In verse four and five we are privy to John’s vision of thrones with individuals appointed authority to judge. These are the same individuals spoken of in chapter four verses four. They are representative of “the elders of Israel or the church or a combination of both (twelve scribes and twelve apostles” according to Hindson. In verse five we are enlightened to the first resurrection. This begins with the Resurrection of Christ and includes those that believed in Him prior to the rapture and those in Him at the time of the rapture. We can identify two individual events here. One is the resurrection and the fact that there will be two. The first will consist of the believers that carry the seal of the lamb and the second will be for those that denied him and are awaiting judgment. With this we can also identify two deaths one that is physical and one that is eternal. The fear that comes with a physical death should be (but often is not) overshadowed by an eternal death. Everyone dies to their physical body but here John is speaking of an eternal death. Where are you going to spend…

The word “Apocalypse” is a source to the book of Revelation, which is the last Chapter in the bible. Its derived from the Greek word “Apokalupsis” for “revelation”, “warning” and/or “disclosure” but spelled Apocalypse in English meaning “uncovering”. In the bible, Revelation is used instead, which makes it ‘The Four Horsemen of Revelation’. In this chapter, it reveals and announces the major events that will take place prior to his return to the earth.…

Revelation is a very complex piece of apocalyptic literature but, at the same time, the core message shines strong for the reader: God is sovereign and his plans will not be frustrated by rebellious humans or spiritual potentates. In the end, Jesus conquers. At the same time, Jesus is not a heartless dictator, and all the judgments poured upon the earth have a double purpose: to serve as a means for repentance.…
